Services — Mobile Diagnostics

We Find The Problem Where It Sits

Check engine lights, no-starts, mystery noises — diagnosed in your driveway.

$125 base + $1.50/mile from Port Angeles

How It Works

No Tow Truck. No Waiting Room.

When a car won't start — or shouldn't be driven — the traditional path is miserable: arrange a tow, pay for the tow, wait days for a shop to "get to it," then get a phone call with a number you can't evaluate. A mobile diagnostic flips that. We drive to your home, your shop, or wherever the vehicle gave up, and we do the diagnostic work right there, with you free to look over our shoulder and ask questions.

That last part matters more than people expect. A diagnosis you watched happen is a diagnosis you can trust. We'll show you what we found — the failed reading, the worn part, the cracked hose — and explain what it means in plain language before anyone talks about repairs.

What a visit includes

Many diagnostics turn into same-visit repairs. If the fix is within the scope of the tools and parts on the truck, we can often move straight from diagnosis to repair at our standard driveway repair rate — one visit, one travel fee.

Why Diagnostics Are Different On A Classic

A modern car mostly tells you what's wrong with it. A 1987 Land Cruiser, a 1974 Volvo 145, or anything wearing a carburetor does not. Diagnosing older vehicles is a discipline of its own — vacuum leaks that mimic ignition problems, grounds gone bad after forty years, fuel systems that behave differently after a car has been sitting through a wet Peninsula winter. General-service shops see these cars rarely and diagnose them slowly, at your expense.

Classics 25 years and older are our specialty, not our exception. That's the core of who we are: we work on the cars other shops turn away, and we've seen the failure patterns — Japanese icons from Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, and Subaru; pre-'94 Volvos; and true vintage machines from before 1972.

Common problems we diagnose

What It Costs — Exactly

Our diagnostic pricing is flat and public, because "diagnostic fee" shouldn't be a surprise on an invoice.

ItemRate
Base diagnostic fee$125
Travel, per mile from Port Angeles$1.50/mi
Example: Sequim (~17 miles)$150.50 total
Example: Port Townsend (~47 miles)$195.50 total

The estimate form calculates your exact total before you ever talk to us. If the diagnostic becomes a repair, labor is billed at our normal published rates — no diagnostic-plus-markup games.

Service Area

We're based in Port Angeles and cover the Olympic Peninsula — Sequim, Port Townsend, Joyce, Forks, Port Ludlow, and the communities in between. The per-mile travel fee means far-flung addresses cost a little more and close ones cost less, which we think is fairer than a flat "service area surcharge" that has nearby customers subsidizing distant ones.
